The Crown

This British television series is the story of the monarchy. The show follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip. The series also features a prominent role for Meghan Markle who plays Princess Anne. She was born on May 25, 1973, and became Princess Anne when she married John Spencer-Churchill in 1992.

 

House of Cards

House of Cards is an adaptation of a popular book series by the same name that’s being adapted into a TV show. The original novel was written by novelist and political commentator David Maraniss and published by Simon & Schuster in 2013. The show follows the fictional Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, who leads a political dynasty on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. He is presented as a corrupt politician who uses his family wealth to get things done at the local and federal levels for himself and his constituents.

Black Mirror

Black Mirror is streaming on Netflix, available for free. This British show has received numerous awards, including two Emmy nominations. The series follows a young man who lives in his mother’s apartment who gets trapped in an alternate reality where technology and the human body have merged.

The series’ creators Dan O’Halloran and Charlie Brooker are also responsible for popular shows like Black Mirror, which premiered in 2011 and were recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama.

The OA

The OA has been on Netflix since 2016. It’s a six-part series that follows the story of David, who witnesses his father being murdered by the IRA. He sets out to find out why and finds himself in situations that are some of the most intense he’s ever faced.

There have been many great web series, but this one stands out because it’s so different from everything else on Netflix. David is a character that you’re going to love playing because he shows such strength and determination even when faced with the worst circumstances imaginable.

 

Sense8

This web series is a spin-off from the popular sci-fi television series, Sense8. It follows the lives of eight different individuals who were able to sense each other’s thoughts across space and time. The series was created by J. Michael Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Voyager) and stars Tuppence Middleton and Jamie Clayton as a couple whose relationship is threatened when their minds become connected.

# Orange is the New Black

I think you’re familiar with this show already, but let me tell you how much I love it. Based on a memoir by Piper Kerman, the web series follows Piper Chapman, who serves 15 years in federal prison for her involvement in a drug ring that sent her husband to prison.

As she struggles to stay sane behind bars, Piper starts to understand what really went on in her life before she entered prison and how she can change her future with help from fellow inmate Alex Vause (Cameron Mison).

 

Master of None

Master of None is a Netflix original series that follows the life of Dev, played by Aziz Ansari. Dev is a call center manager who wants to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. The show follows him as he struggles to make it to New York City.

The series was created and written by Ansari, based on his experiences with his character’s life. The show is currently available on Netflix, and you can watch it for free on its website.

 

Bojack Horseman

A Netflix original that’s available for streaming or on DVD, the series follows a washed-up actor who thinks he’s dying from drugs and alcohol.

The story follows BoJack Horseman as he tries to cope with his problems by trying to get off of them. It’s a dark comedy about depression, alcoholism, addiction, and life in Hollywood.
